A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was recently signed between Mattu University (MaU) and the Population Health and Environment Ethiopia Consortium (PHE-EC) to foster a comprehensive institutional collaboration. The agreement aims to enhance research initiatives, capacity building through training, monitoring and evaluation, proposal development, and the organization of workshops and seminars. The signing ceremony was attended by key representatives from both organizations, including Dr. Bedilu Teka, Vice President for Academic, Research, Technology Transfer, and Community Service at MaU, and Mr. Chaluma Kicha, Field Coordinator at PHE-EC.
In his speech, Dr. Bedilu Teka emphasized the significance of the MoU in promoting sustainable development and addressing the interconnected challenges of health, environment, and population dynamics. He stated, “This collaboration will not only enhance our research capabilities but also empower our students and faculty to engage in meaningful projects that contribute to community well-being and environmental sustainability.”
Mr. Chaluma Kicha echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of integrating health and environmental considerations into development programs. He remarked, “Through this partnership, we aim to create a synergy that will lead to innovative solutions and impactful interventions that benefit both our communities and the environment.”
The MoU represents a strategic step towards achieving shared goals in research and capacity building, reinforcing the commitment of both institutions to work collaboratively for the betterment of society.
